About the Company

The YWCA of Jerusalem, located in Sheikh Jarrah East Jerusalem, is a membership-based women organization registered locally as non-governmental. The YWCA works under four main thematic areas: Women and youth Economic Development, Women's Rights Programs, Youth Leadership, Training and Civic Engagement as well as Children Education and Cognitive Learning.

Mental Health is cross cutting the four thematic areas of the YWCA of Jerusalem. The YWCA's Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) interventions have been actively implemented in East Jerusalem, prioritizing child protection and addressing gender-based violence among women and girls. These interventions are delivered at the YWCA's headquarters and through partnerships with community-based organizations (CBOs) across Jerusalem. The primary areas of focus include Sheikh Jarrah, Anata and surrounding localities.

Job Description

In line with the organization's commitment to inclusivity and accessibility, specific project sessions will involve participants with hearing impairments. To ensure equal participation and effective communication, the organization seeks to hire a qualified Sign Language Interpreter on a consultancy basis.

Purpose of the Assignment

The purpose of this consultancy is to provide professional sign language interpretation during designated training sessions, workshops, and awareness activities within (Jerusalem and West Bank), ensuring full accessibility for participants with hearing impairments.

Scope of Work

The Sign Language Interpreter will be responsible for:

  • Providing real-time sign language interpretation (spoken to sign and sign to spoken) during designated sessions.
  • Facilitating clear communication between facilitators, participants with hearing impairments, and other attendees.

Collaborating with facilitators beforehand to review session content and terminology to ensure accurate interpretation.

Maintaining confidentiality and professionalism throughout all sessions.

  • Providing brief feedback to the project team on communication flow and inclusivity issues observed (if relevant).

Deliverables

  • Accurate and effective sign language interpretation for all assigned sessions.
  • A short summary report (if requested) outlining interpretation challenges and recommendations for improved inclusion in future activities.

Duration and Schedule

Reporting Line

The interpreter will report directly to the Project Coordinator or designated Session Facilitator and work in close coordination with the Program Team.

 

Payment and Fees

Payment will be made on a per-session basis or upon completion of assigned days, based on submission of a signed attendance sheet and confirmation of satisfactory service delivery and submission of an original tax invoice.

Confidentiality

The interpreter shall maintain strict confidentiality regarding all information shared during the sessions and shall not disclose any personal or sensitive participant information.

Requirements
Certified Sign Language Interpreter (national or internationally recognized certification).
Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in interpretation, preferably in humanitarian and/or psychosocial contexts.
Familiarity with social, protection, or mental health terminology is an asset.
Excellent communication skills and adherence to professional ethics, including confidentiality and neutrality.
