The SMS Director is responsible for leading and expanding the organization’s international A2P and P2P SMS wholesale business. This includes developing strategic carrier partnerships, managing international routes, optimizing traffic profitability, and ensuring high service quality and compliance across all markets.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in international messaging, carrier relations, and SMS trading, combined with commercial acumen and leadership experience. This position requires occasional international travel to meet with partners, attend telecom events, and strengthen global business relationships.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Business Growth
- Develop and execute the SMS wholesale business strategy to achieve revenue and margin targets.
- Identify and establish new partnerships with global mobile operators, aggregators, and messaging hubs.
- Monitor market trends and competitor activity to ensure competitive positioning.
Carrier Relations & Negotiations
- Build, manage, and grow relationships with international carriers, aggregators, and OTT partners.
- Negotiate interconnect, bilateral, and hubbing agreements to secure high-quality and cost-efficient routes.
- Represent the company at international telecom conferences, exhibitions, and business forums.
Operations & Quality Management
- Oversee SMS routing, trading, and operations teams.
- Ensure optimal route performance, DLR accuracy, and traffic quality.
- Work closely with the technical and NOC teams to resolve routing and delivery issues.
Financial & Commercial Management
- Manage the P&L for the SMS wholesale division.
- Control trading margins, pricing models, and route profitability.
- Coordinate with the finance team on billing, reconciliation, and dispute management.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, train, and motivate account managers, traders, and support staff.
- Promote a culture of accountability, innovation, and customer focus.
- Implement tools and automation to streamline SMS trading and reporting.
