SOS Children’s Villages International was founded in 1949 as an independent, non-governmental, non-profit social organization. It has been operating in Palestine since 1966, focusing on the social development of orphaned, deprived, and abandoned children. The organization provides them with full and comprehensive care through an innovative, long-term family-based approach—from childhood until self-reliance—while respecting their roots and religious, cultural, and social backgrounds. SOS Children’s Villages also applies a strict Child Protection Policy to ensure a safe family-like environment for every child.

Job Overview:
The Aunt / Family Assistant provides support to the SOS Mother in various ways and substitutes for her during leave periods (annual or sick leave). She respects the SOS Mother’s role as the primary caregiver responsible for the children and youth in the family, while also contributing to their well-being and development. Aunts and Family Assistants continuously work with two to three families and may rotate among families across the program.
Main Responsibilities:
a) Supporting SOS Mothers in providing direct care for children
The Aunt collaborates with the SOS Mother within a mutually agreed framework that includes childcare and household responsibilities. In the mother’s absence, the Aunt temporarily moves into the SOS family home to care for the children. She also supports the SOS Mother during demanding periods, assisting in child development and household tasks.
b) Supporting child development activities
The Aunt is familiar with each child’s background and responds sensitively to their developmental needs. She supports the SOS Mother in working toward the child’s individual development goals (as defined in the Individual Development Plan) through daily family activities.
c) Serving as a positive role model for children and youth
The Aunt plays an important role in the children’s growth, providing an additional mature perspective and sharing her values and life experiences as a trusted figure in their lives.
Child Protection Policy Responsibilities:
Promote awareness of the SOS Child Protection Policy and ensure children are protected from all forms of abuse, neglect, exploitation, violence, and discrimination.
Immediately report any suspicion, concern, allegation, or incident following the established Child Protection reporting procedures to the Child Safeguarding Focal Person at the National Office and/or the relevant direct supervisor.
