The Augusta Victoria Hospital (AVH) is a medical center of excellence that has been providing healthcare services and other health programs for about 70 years to Palestinians, including refugees from throughout the West Bank and Gaza. AVH, a program by the Lutheran World Federation, serves patients regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, or political conviction, without discrimination or favoritism; It is a modern tertiary care facility that serves the most disadvantaged patients from Gaza and the West Bank and has a special historic relationship with the United Nations Relief Works Agency (UNRWA) for Palestine Refugees

 

The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) is a global communion of 148 churches in the Lutheran tradition, representing 75.5 million Christians in 99 countries. LWF World Service works in 25 countries in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean.  LWF Jerusalem program has served the Palestinians in Jerusalem, West Bank and Gaza through humanitarian, health and educational programs since 1948. LWF manages the Augusta Victoria Hospital, two vocational training centers in Ramallah and in East Jerusalem and its central office is on the Mount of Olives.

Job Description

Terms of Reference

Main outcome of the role:

The Staff Nurse provides professional nursing care to patients in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards of care. They are responsible for assessing patients' conditions, planning and implementing care plans, administering medications, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality patient care.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Care:

  • Assess patients' health conditions by monitoring vital signs, symptoms, and medical history.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans based on patients' needs and preferences.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and procedures as prescribed by physicians.
  •  Provide patient and family education on health management and disease prevention.
  • Monitor and document patients' progress and report any changes to the healthcare team.

 

Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient care and treatment plans.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to ensure a shared understanding of care plans.

 

Safety and Compliance:

  • Adhere to infection control protocols and safety standards.
  • Ensure that all nursing practices comply with legal, ethical, and professional standards.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care in electronic health records (EHR).
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care outcomes.
  • Professional Development:
  • Stay current with nursing practices and continue professional education through workshops, conferences, and courses.
  • Participate in hospital training programs and staff meetings.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior nurses and nursing students.

Emergency Response:

  • Respond to medical emergencies and initiate appropriate interventions, including life-saving measures.
  • Assist in preparing and handling emergency situations, including performing CPR and other emergency procedures.

    Perform any other related duties, as assigned.

Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) or an equivalent nursing degree.
Passing the National Licensure Examination with a Current and valid nursing license in Palestine/Israel
Current and valid Basic Life Support certificate from an accredited training center by AHA
Strong clinical skills in patient assessment, care planning, and medication administration
Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to build credibility and trust with departments and staff and work effectively with them.
Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) and other healthcare technologies.
Fluency in English and in Arabic.
Motivated to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work effectively in a team and independently, meet tight deadlines, and demonstrate flexibility and creativity in planning and problem-solving.
